Ukrainian Police Probe $1 Mln Card Scam

IEV, February 26, 2013 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian police are searching for two suspected fraudsters believed to have stolen almost $1 million from elderly people's bank accounts, the local Interior Ministry’s Kiev branch said on Tuesday.
According to police, the two men made phone calls to elderly people who they suspected were well-off. Posing as bank employees, they deceived their victims into giving confidential account information so as to make duplicates of their bank cards.
It then took the two men only a few hours to withdraw 8 million hryvnas (about $982,000) from their victims’ accounts using cash machines throughout Kiev.
The police say they have a description of the suspects they are looking for.
