Jean-Guenolé-Marie DaniélouS.J., was a Jesuit theologian, historian, cardinal and a member of the Académie française.

At the request of Future Blessed, Pope John XXIII, he served as an expert to the Second Vatican Council and was elected as Titular Archbishop of the See Taormina on April 11, 1969. He received his Episcopal Consecration on April 19, at Saint-Joseph-des-Carmes's Catholic Institute of Paris, from Cardinal - Designate François Marty, Archbishop of Paris, assisted by Msgr. Julien Gouet, Titular Bishop of the See of Auguro, Auxiliary of Paris and by Msgr. Daniel Pézeril, Titular Bishop of the See of Reperi, as well Auxiliary of Paris. A week later, in the Consistory of April 28, 1969, was made a Cardinal by Pope Paul VI, receiving the Title of Cardinal Deacon of Santa Saba. He was elected to the Académie Française on November 9, 1972, succeeding Cardinal Eugène-Gabriel-Gervais-Laurent Tisserant. He was furthermore appointed a Knight of the Légion d'Honneur. His unexpected death in 1974, in the home of a prostitute, was very diversely interpreted. It was claimed by the Society of Jesus that he was bringing money to pay for the bail of the prostitute's lover. The French Press and the general public however, remain cynical of the Cardinal's altruism.better source needed*
